From a private detective to the Marvel superhero

The new Marvel hero, Doctor Strange, is definitely not the most famous name in Marvel’s roster of characters. The same cannot be said about the actor who plays this role 😏 Anyway, the film is already hitting box-offices around the world. What’s so special about it?

Let’s start with the plot.

What’s it about?

So, it’s all about a successful neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange. One day, a devastating car accident makes him lose the use of the hands. Stephen’s co-worker Christine, who is at the same time his lover, tries to persuade him to move on. As the man believes in the possibility of the recovery, he continues to contact his resources pursuing experimental surgeries. This finally leads Sherlock (oops, sorry, Dr. Strange) to the world of astral plane and other dimensions. Okay, here is where all the fun begins. From now on, it’s just Tibet, gurus, the law of time (namely, attempts to break it) and of course, battles against the evil.

My impression?

Well, having watched most Marvel movies, I’d say this one is another typical superhero film of Marvel Studios production. Much of the success of the film is down to the casting. Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave”) are why personally I went to the cinema. I’m not saying Doctor Strange is not worth watching, it’s just that you don’t expect this kind of films to be soul touching, right? You would rather expect it to help you relax for the next two hours and forget about some everyday problems. And Doctor Strange did help me relax.

Let’s move on. I believe it’s reasonable to combine work with pleasure. What I’m trying to say 😅 is let’s combine entertainment with a bit of education. I think you have to learn from every life situation you have faced. In our case, we’ll extract these messages from films 🤓

What should I take from it?

Though the most part of Doctor Strange is fight scenes mixed with bits of humour (like Tibetan master Wong listening to Beyonce’s music), still there is something that the film makes you think about. That something is the belief in yourself. Stephen Strange could have been a disabled person for the rest of his life. But he never gave up. The belief made him move on. “If you are going through hell, keep going,” says Winston Churchill. We all bump into obstacles on our way, but I think you can do anything if you believe in yourself. Just trust your heart and follow your dream. And that dream may even bring you to the other part of the world 😌

Overall, Doctor Strange is a must-see for the Marvel fans. And even for non-Marvel fans, it will be a good choice for a one-time movie watch.

P.S. For those who actually watched the movie. Is it only me who saw Doctor SHERLOCK Strange? Sorry, Stephen.
